Michael Gambon has joined the cast of Robert Mullan’s new drama feature “James & Lucia” which details the final years of acclaimed Irish writer and “Ulysses” author James Joyce.
Aiden Gillen was previously announced to play Joyce back in 2017 and remains attached to the Ireland, Belgium and US co-production which will start filming this November.
The story deals with how the mental health of his professional dancer daughter Lucia deteriorates around the same time as the near-blind Joyce writes his other most famous novel “Finnegans Wake”. Lucia was diagnosed as schizophrenic in the mid-1930s, was once treated by Carl Jung, and shared a failed romance with playwright Samuel Beckett.
Mullan, Michael Garland, Morris Ruskin and Mark Andrews will produce for Sisyphus Films, Grand Pictures, MugShot Films and UMedia.
