Talk of a sequel to the beloved 1999 sci-fi comedy spoof “Galaxy Quest” has run around for years, so when it kicked up a little last year – not much attention was paid to it.
Turns out that talk was more than just internet whispers though. Appearing on the Nerdist Podcast this week, Sam Rockwell revealed that Amazon Studios was actively working on putting a sequel together that would’ve seen all the original cast reuniting.
Sadly though, a combination of scheduling conflicts and Alan Rickman’s untimely passing meant the project never ultimately came together. Had things been worked out though, they would’ve been filming it around this time says Rockwell:
“They were going to do a sequel on Amazon and we were ready to sign up for, and you know, Alan Rickman passed away and Tim Allen wasn’t available, he has a show, and everybody’s show was all weird. We were going to this sequel on Amazon. It was going to shoot like, right now.”
Rockwell, Rickman, Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, Enrico Colantoni, Justin Long, Missi Pyle, and Daryl Mitchell all starred in the original which today, seventeen years later, still has a major fanbase.
