FX’s “Legion” Debuts To Raves But Soft Ratings

FX debuted “Legion” this week, the new series from Noah Hawley (“Fargo”) set in an alternate version of the “X-Men” universe. The results from critics have been great with an 82/100 on Metacritic, the best debut of the year so far and on par with 2016 debuts like “The Night Manager,” “And Then There Were None” and “The Crown”.

Ratings wise though, the show got off to a soft start. Live+same day total viewership for the series came in at 1.6 million viewers and a 0.8 in adults 18-49 for the series premiere.

That was the smallest live+same day total viewership for a recent FX drama premiere, below both the axed “The Bastard Executioner” (2.1 million viewers, 0.8) and last month’s far less well reviewed “Taboo” (1.8 million, 0.6), and way behind the likes of “American Crime Story” (5.1 million, 2.0) and “Fargo” (2.7 million, 0.8).

FX officially only reports Live+3 ratings. Right now though they’re looking forward and have released a ‘On the Season ahead’ promo trailer. Sadly this is geolocked and will not play outside the United States.
