After being first announced in April, its now been revealed that Oscar-nominated filmmaker Michael Mann and producer Michael De Luca’s planned event series adaptation of “Black Hawk Down” author Mark Bowden’s new novel “Hue 1968” has ended up at FX.
The story is described as a ‘kaleidoscopic work’ which incorporates personal accounts on all sides during 1968’s Tet Offensive – the turning point of American involvement in the Vietnam War.
Accounts of the almost month-long period deals with key characters including an innocent schoolgirl turned hardened revolutionary, a Marine captain who becomes a war hero, a math teacher turned infantryman and more.
Mann and De Luca envision the ambitious project as an eight-to-ten-hour miniseries. Mann will direct multiple episodes and will produce alongside De Luca. Filming aims to begin in Asia by the end of the year.
