It has been teased for some time, but at last, the TV series based on the 2014 vampire mockumentary “What We Do in the Shadows” is going forward with FX ordering a pilot for the half-hour comedy.
The original film starred and was co-written and co-directed by “Thor: Ragnarok” writer/director Taika Waititi and “Flight of the Conchords” co-creator Jemaine Clement. The story followed four vampire roommates trying to get by in a modern world that’s not always hospitable to the undead. A documentary crew follows them as they show off details of their nightly routine.
The series sees Waititi return as director and executive producer, and Clement as writer and executive producer. Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou and Harvey Guillen are reportedly cast in the pilot which is being executive produced by Scott Rudin, Paul Simms, Garrett Basch and Eli Bush.
The project isn’t to be confused with the other spin-off series “Wellington Paranormal” which has been produced and will arrive on New Zealand TV in mid-2018, or the film sequel “We’re Wolves” which puts the focus on the werewolf characters from the first film.
