FX is developing a ongoing TV series adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan’s beloved sci-fi comic “Y: The Last Man”.
The 60-issue comic follows young amateur escape artist Yorick Brown and his pet monkey Ampersand, the last two men on Earth. Something simultaneously kills every mammal on Earth possessing a Y chromosome – including embryos, fertilized eggs, and even sperm.
Society is plunged into chaos as infrastructures collapse and the surviving women everywhere try to cope with the loss of the men. Yorick goes on a mission to find his girlfriend Beth, who was on vacation in Australia.
Attempts have been made for years to adapt the property as a movie. DJ Caruso (“Disturbia”), Louis Leterrier (“The Incredible Hulk”) and Dan Trachtenberg were previously attached as directors while Shia LaBeouf and Alicia Keys were linked as stars to earlier versions.
It has taken a while for the TV series plan to move forward as FX had to wait until the rights to the series reverted back from New Line to Vaughan.
A search is now under way to find a writer to develop the series with Vaughan, along with a director for the pilot. “The Hunger Games” series producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson will produce for Color Force, FX and FX Productions.
