Following the success of “American Horror Story” on FX, the network and the show’s creator Ryan Murphy have announced plans for a companion anthology series entitled “American Crime Story”.
Each season will deal with a different real-life crime story that made headlines. The ten episode first season is subtitled “The People v. O.J. Simpson” and is based on Jeffrey Toobin’s book “The Run of His Life”. The series will explore Simpson’s trial from the perspective of the lawyers and the maneuvering that took place on both sides of the court.
The project was actually setup initially at Fox where “The People vs. Larry Flint” scribes Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski were developing it with producers Brad Simpson and Nina Jacobson.
All four will shift over to the FX series with Alexander and Karaszewski to pen the first two episodes. Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Dante Di Loreto will also executive produce, while Murphy is set to direct and shooting is slated to begin early next year in Los Angeles.
