Despite legal streaming services flourishing in more countries and making deeper in roads into living rooms than ever before, piracy relating to major blockbuster films remains common.
Variety reports that according to a new study, illegal new release film downloads were at an all-time high over the course of the past four months.
Offering up a list of the most downloaded films of the season, it’s no huge surprise that George Miller’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” took the title of the most pirated movie of summer 2015 to go alongside its honor of being the most acclaimed wide release of that season as well.
According to new data from piracy-tracking firm Excipio, downloads on worldwide torrent sites are up 29% on last Summer and ‘Fury Road’ easily led the bunch with 22.9 million illegal downloads.
Coming in behind it were “Jurassic World” with 18.16 million, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” with 15.87 million, “The Divergent Series: Insurgent” with 14.46 million, and “Terminator Genisys” with 13.94 million.
