Writers Nicole Perlman, Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet have all reportedly come onboard the “Fast and Furious” franchise with the trio to pen an upcoming female-centric spin-off of the car action series.
Franchise steward and star Vin Diesel announced the news on social media. This would mark the second spin-off of the series following the upcoming “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” this Summer. Series regular Michelle Rodriguez previously spoke about the lacking roles the franchise has had for women and this spin-off is expected to correct that to some extent.
Of the writers, both Perlman and Robertson-Dworet worked on the script for “Captain Marvel” with the former also working on “Guardians of the Galaxy” and the latter on the recent “Tomb Raider” reboot. Beer penned Netflix’s “Sierra Burgess Is A Loser” and will write the upcoming “Ninja Turtles” reboot. All three were also part of Hasbro’s writers room for Paramount’s planned “Transformers” shared universe.
A ninth film in the main “Fast and Furious” series, which has made $5 billion at the global box-office so far, is expected to begin filming in April ahead of a 2020 release.
