Vin Diesel took to the stage at CinemaCon today to announce that the eighth film in the “Fast and Furious” franchise has been set for an April 14th 2017 release date. No word as yet on whom will direct the next chapter, or what the official title will be.
“Furious 7” has earned $1.158 billion at the worldwide box office and currently sits in seventh place on the list of all time worldwide box-office grosses, while the series overall has pushed past the $3 billion worldwide mark. Thus it comes as little surprise that Universal is moving forward as fast as it can on this franchise.
They weren’t the only date announcements by the studio today. Universal Pictures also locked down dates for the the two sequels to “Fifty Shades of Grey” with “Fifty Shades Darker” set to open February 10th 2017 and “Fifty Shades Freed” coming a year later on February 9th 2018.
