Fuqua Could Direct Carr’s “The Devil Soldier”

“The Equalizer” director Antoine Fuqua will produce and possibly direct the historical-action epic “The Devil Soldier” based on best-selling novel by “The Alienist” author Caleb Carr.

The story follows the American outlaw turned mercenary Frederick Townsend Ward during China’s Taiping Rebellion from 1850 to 1864. The story traces Ward’s life fighting with Garibaldi in South America, William Walker in Central America, the French army in the Crimea, and mostly the Taiping Rebellion.

Mark Earl Burman will produce. Fuqua recently completed work on the documentary “What’s My Name: Muhammad Ali” and will also be directing the Suge Knight documentary “American Dream/American Knightmare”.
