FUNimation Entertainment has secured the North and South American theatrical, home entertainment, VOD and broadcast rights to Shinji Higuchi’s upcoming Japanese live-action feature film “Attack on Titan”. The two-part saga will be released in Japan in August and September.
Based on the popular manga series, the story is set in a world where the remnants of humanity live inside a series of connected cities, isolated by enormous walls to keep the Titans out. Titans are gigantic humanoid creatures who devour humans seemingly without reason and have reduced the world’s population to staggeringly low numbers.
The story follows three people whose lives are changed when a titan breaches the wall protecting their town. The manga has over fifty million copies in print today and inspired a twenty-five episode anime series which FUNimation already released on home video in North America.
The world premiere of the first part of the film will take place at the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles on July 14th.
