As part of its fourth-quarter financial report released yesterday, Funcom CEO Rui Casais announced they have reached an exclusive gaming partnership with Legendary Entertainment.
As a result, the Norwegian video game developer plans to develop a minimum of three video games based on the works of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi classic novel “Dune” which will shortly be turned into a big-budget feature by Legendary.
Casais says: “Dune is one of the world’s best-known science fiction universes and a personal favorite of mine. To work on Dune games is a dream come true for many of us in Funcom.”
The company has created games in various genres in recent years including “Conan Exiles,” “Secret World Legends” and “Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden”.
The Legendary partnership is said to be a six-year deal for a minimum of three games on PC/consoles, one of which will be an ‘open world multiplayer’ game that will begin pre-production later this year.
