We had a close-up of his face, but now EW has unveiled the first full body look at Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise the Clown in Andy Muschietti’s film adaptation of Stephen King’s “IT”.
The full costume has a more traditional clown look. Costume designer Janie Bryant says the idea is to make the child murderer look both child-like and doll-like which is why the fit of the costume feels askew. This Pennywise is also “almost like a shadow” who chooses to hide and strike out rather than lure them in with a bright appearance.
The look does what it likely sets out to achieve – to be both creepy and distinctly different to the look of Tim Curry’s version in the 1990s mini-series adaptation. The new “IT” is currently in production ahead of a September 2017 release.
