In the wake of the $1.2 billion worldwide gross for Disney’s CG animated feature “Frozen,” the most surprising thing is that we have heard so little about a potential sequel.
Interest in the franchise, especially amongst young girls, has not waned. “Frozen” toys and merchandise are still in high demand, a stage musical is in development, and an attraction is slated to debut at Disney World in 2016. Yet Disney still hasn’t commented on a cinematic follow-up.
In a new interview with The Telegraph, Elsa’s voice actress Idina Menzel dropped hint that a sequel film is actually in the works along with the stage show: “They’re all in the works, ha ha!.”
So which of these is she involved in? “Ah, yeah sure… Not the stage show – I don’t know what will happen with that – but the movie hopefully. We’ll see. I’m just going along for the ride.”
Disney currently has a November 2018 release date set aside for an unnamed film, which could be a holding slot for a “Frozen” follow-up.
