French Mayor Censors Lesbian Film Poster

A right-wing mayor in a small French town has ordered the posters for the upcoming lesbian film “La Belle Saison” be taken down from public display says The Local (via Towleroad).

“La Belle Saison” follows a farm girl who falls passionately in love with a radical feminist. National Front mayor Philippe de Beauregard explained his decision to regional newspaper Le Dauphine libere, saying the poster art “could disturb” young viewers. He says:

“I’ve seen the film and there are numerous scenes that could upset young viewers, and there are now warnings or age restrictions… If it (the film) was about a heterosexual relationship, I would have had the same reaction. These are erotic scenes in close-up which aren’t meant for all viewers”
