Freeform’s “Fosters” Ends But Spin-Off Lives

Freeform’s family drama series “The Fosters” is set to end its run after five seasons, but will close out with a final three-episode installment in the Summer which will also introduce an already greenlit thirteen episode spin-off series.

Set several years in the future, the spin-off will follow the lives of their characters, Callie (Maia Mitchell) and Mariana (Cierra Ramirez), as they embark on the next phase of their young adult lives as they move in together in Los Angeles.

The two may be joined by at least one more young cast member with conversations currently underway. Plans are for the various characters from the original series to make guest appearances including Teri Polo and Sherri Saum’s parents.

The series, one of the networks most watched and highest rated series for its entire run, broke ground for Freeform and earned praise for its portrayal of LGBT characters and issues. The series recently wrapped production on its fifth season with the last batch of ten episodes kicking off on January 9th.
