Freeform has cancelled “Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger,” the network opting not to renew the series for a third season and the options on the cast have expired this week. The series was well-received when it first debuted in 2018, but ratings plummeted almost 40% for the sophomore outing.
The cancellation also comes as Marvel Television’s future is uncertain as Head of Television Jeph Loeb looks to exit while Kevin Feige has been appointed CCO for all of the Marvel empire and is putting the TV attention on big-budget Disney+ event series.
The series followed the story of Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) – two teenagers from very different backgrounds who find themselves burdened with and awakened to newly acquired superpowers, which are mysteriously linked to one another.
The end of ‘Cloak’ also begs the obvious question as to the fate of the other remaining Marvel TV series from the in-development “Helstrom” to the still on the air “Runaways”.
