Freeform has officially canceled its supernatural anthology drama series “Dead of Summer” after one season, a growing trend for the rebranded ABC Family which similarly cancelled “Guilt,” “Recovery Road” and “Kevin From Work” after one season.
“Once Upon a Time” creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis were behind the show which was ordered straight-to-series. Set in the late 1980s, it followed counselors at a Midwestern summer camp where an ancient mythology awakens and starts claiming victims.
The series wrapped its ten-episode in late August to just 410,000 total viewers and scored bad critical reviews. It was reportedly eyeing a creative reboot ahead of a planned second season.
