James and Dave Franco are set to executive produce a pilot based on the David Kushner novel “Masters of Doom” which USA Network has ordered from Universal Content Productions.
The true story tale follows two computer geniuses and best friends – John Carmack and John Romero – who, in an obscure corner of America and with the help of a group of rebellious misfits, created the iconic 1990s video game “Doom”.
They transformed pop culture forever and becoming bitter rivals in the process. Should it be picked up to series, it will serve as the first installment in a planned anthology and each subsequent season would then be based on seminal moments in the history of video games.
Tom Bissell, who has worked on the “Uncharted” and “Battlefield’ game franchises, will serve as writer and executive producer on the series.
Kushner, Vince Jolivette, Elizabeth Haggard, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Eric Robinson, and Jeremy Bell executive produce.
