Filmmaker Francis Lawrence (“Constantine,” “I Am Legend”) is in talks to develop a new version of Sony’s long-gestating Houdini biopic reports Variety.
The studio has been trying to produce a Houdini biopic since the 90’s and at one point Paul Verhoeven was attached to helm.
This new version is being described as a “large-scale period production” with the emphasis put on “Houdini’s renowned showmanship”. Jimmy Miller (“The Other Guys,” “Bad Teacher”) will produce.
The film is not to be confused with “The Secret Life of Houdini” which is in development at Summit Entertainment and explores the theory that the master illusionist was also a British spy.
