Fox’s “New Mutants” Film Gets An Animatic

After months without much information, a storyboard animatic sequence from the Josh Boone-directed X-Men spin-off “New Mutants” at 20th Century Fox has emerged over at Coming Soon.

The project is still in the development stage with no stars or release date yet officially set. That said, production aims to get underway next year under the eye of writer/director Josh Boone who will helm from a script by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber.

The animatic today involves several of the New Mutants, including Magik, Wolfsbane, and Cannonball, taking turns battling the magical giant bear known as Demon Bear who draws power from negative human emotion. Mirage and Sunspot are also expected to be a part of the line-up.

The site’s source also says the movie is a horror film in the style of Stephen King by way of John Hughes, and that Boone film regular Nat Wolff is the favorite to play Cannonball.

Filming aims to begin in early 2017 with one of the three marked out 2018 release dates for a Fox-Marvel project to be used.
