Fox’s “Gotham” Includes Batman Villains

Some more details have come to light regarding “Gotham,” Fox’s straight to series Batman prequel. Previous reports indicated that the focus would be on a young Jim Gordon and his rise to Commissioner, while a 12-year-old Bruce Wayne would be a recurring character.

Turns out there’s more to it than that. Speaking on Monday for a panel at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, Fox Entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly says:

“This is not one of the things where you bought a franchise and then none of characters people know. We will follow Bruce Wayne right up until the point where he gets interesting.”

Reilly confirmed the series will be “very serialized” and as much a Batman origin story as it is a Gordon one, a show that ultimately ends with Bruce Wayne putting on the cape and becoming Batman.

He also confirms that classic Batman villains like The Joker, Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman will be a part of the series. Fox paid a “very healthy license fee” which allows them to draw from the entire Batman catalog.

“The Mentalist” showrunner Bruno Heller is executive producing the drama series which is currently in the process of casting.
