Russian scribe Mikhail Raskhodnikov has reportedly sued 20th Century Fox over Ridley Scott’s “The Martian” which he alleges plagiarizes his script.
Raskhodnikov’s lawyer Shota Gorgadze revealed on Russian FM station Vesti that his client penned a script entitled “Marsianin” (The Martian) back in 2008 which was submitted to local and international studios.
Raskhodnikov is certain the script wound up at Fox’s main headquarters and some details were used in the film. Raskhodnikov is demanding $761,700 in damages and are calling on the Russian government to step in. The lawsuit will be considered in a few weeks.
Fox has denied the claims, a spokesperson telling EW: “This suit is completely without merit and we will vigorously defend against these baseless claims.”
Scott’s film is based on Andy Weir’s 2011 novel “The Martian”. It is slated for a Russian release on October 8th.
