20th Century Fox has acquired “Reality Bites” scribe Helen Childress’ spec horror script “The Mountain” and will develop it for Ben Stiller to direct says Deadline.
Set in the early 1900s, the story revolves around a young woman who struggles to confront her destiny after stumbling upon a mysterious object that forces her to examine the secrets of her past.
The tone is adult horror akin to “Rosemary’s Baby” and will utilise characters from Edith Wharton’s 1917 novel “Summer”. Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld will produce.
Stiller and Childress are also developing an adaptation of the children’s book “The Snowy Day” while Stiller will star in and direct a remake of “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” for Fox.
