FOX Renews “Simpsons,” Scraps “24” Reboot

Having been tipped the other day, FOX has now officially announced it has renewed “The Simpsons” for a 31st and a 32nd season. The animated series is currently in its 30th season, which allowed it to break the record for longest running primetime scripted series which was previously set by “Gunsmoke”.

The network also indicated today that FOX has passed on handing out a pilot order for two proposed spinoffs of the hit series “24,” and as a result producers are expected to go back to the drawing board.

The first series was a planned prequel focusing on the origin story of Kiefer Sutherland’s character Jack Bauer. The second was a legal thriller that would have centered on the 24 hours ticking down until a prisoner’s execution. The Japanese TV remake of the property however is proceeding.
