The Fox Network is developing a contemporary small screen take on the cult high school-set 1989 dark comedy “Heathers” says Variety.
The original film revolved around Veronica (Winona Ryder) as she navigates a clique of mean girls – all named Heather – and rebels after meeting J.D. (Christian Slater), the new guy at school.
Soon, the Heathers start “accidentally” dying at the hands of Veronica and J.D., who cover up the deaths by faking them as suicides.
Mark Rizzo (“Zip”) and Jenny Bicks (“Sex and the City,” “Men in Trees”) will adapt the property for TV and produce the series through Lakeshore Entertainment.
