FOX Plans Live “Rent,” “Christmas Story” Musicals

FOX has announced plans for live TV productions of the musicals “Rent” and “A Christmas Story” with Marc Platt, Adam Siegel set to executive produce both.

“Rent,” which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, tells the story of seven artists in NYC’s East Village struggling to follow their dreams during a time of great social and political turmoil under the shadow of AIDS.

Julie Larson, Al Larson, Vince Totino, Scott Hemming and Marla Levine will executive produce with no air date currently set.

“A Christmas Story” will air this December and be based on the Broadway musical version of the 1983 film of the same name, about a Midwestern boy named Ralphie who wants nothing more than a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas.

Benj Pasek and Justin Paul will compose several new songs for the live television event.
