With the success of “Empire,” FOX is continuing their relationship with both producer Lee Daniels and shows about the behind the scenes of the music business.
The network has ordered the drama pilot “Star,” an Atlanta-set tale about three girls rising to the top as they form a band.
Speaking at the network’s TCA presentation, Fox TV chief Dana Walden says: “The project features a lot of Lee’s own DNA and represents a new perspective, that of the artist. The setup lends to a great soap operatic storytelling machine.”
Daniels will co-write and executive produce the project with “The Whole Truth” creator Tom Donaghy. There is reportedly crossover potential between “Star” and “Empire,” though there are no plans at this time.
