FOX has announced plans to develop an event series about The Cotton Club, Harlem’s hottest nightclub during the roaring 1920s. The project is in early development at the script phase.
Described as a sexy, soapy music series, “Cotton Club” follows the interconnected lives of the black entertainers who performed there and the white gangsters who ran it.
Ayanna Floyd is writer and showrunner, and will serve as executive producer with former Oscars producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. Kenny Leon will serve as director and executive producer.
The club was previously immortalised on screen in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1984 film starring Richard Gere, Gregory Hines and Diane Lane.
