FOX Plans A Female-Led “Nice Guys” Series

It isn’t just the “Kung Fu” reboot that’s getting a gender-swapped lead, the FOX network is also working on a TV series adaptation of Shane Black’s 2016 noir comedy “The Nice Guys” – but with female leads.

Titled “The Nice Girls,” FOX has handed out a script commitment plus penalty with Michael Diliberti (“30 Minutes or Less”) to pen the pilot. The new take shifts the project from its 1970s setting to present day Los Angeles with women taking on the lead roles.

Black isn’t involved in the new series which sounds more like a female buddy detective comedy with no real relation to the Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe-led film beyond the title and some personality elements (eg. bumbling detective teamed with gruff enforcer)

Rodney Ferrell, Ken Kao and Joel Silver will produce for Silver Pictures Television, 20th Century Fox Television and Lionsgate.
