Fox Nabs Missile Crisis Tale Midnight

Fox 2000 has picked up screen rights to Michael Dobbs’s best selling Cuban Missile Crisis-themed tome “One Minute to Midnight” says Variety.

The story focuses on a nearly forgotten incident during the near-fortnight tense standoff between Americans and Russians in the 60’s when a U-2 pilot from Alaska lost his bearings and strayed into Soviet Union airspace.

The incident occured towards the tense end of the crisis as Fidel Castro was pushing Khrushchev to fire his missiles. Unaware of being flown off course, the plane was soon running out of fuel while Soviet bombers thought they were under attack and scrambled.

Ultimately he came to a safe landing on an icy airstrip in Alaska and the incident helped prompt cooler heads to prevail during the crisis.
