FOX is officially moving forward with a modern TV series remake of Paramount’s 1980 romantic drama “Urban Cowboy,” giving the project a script commitment.
Debra Winger and John Travolta starred in the Texas-set original which followed two star-crossed young lovers as they pursue their dreams and passions through the sweat of line-dancing in honky-tonks and the grime of the oil refineries.
Craig Brewer (“Hustle and Flow”) is attached to write, direct and executive produce. Robert Evans, Sue Naegle and Chris Levinson are also attached to executive produce the series which is expected to serve as a companion piece for their recent success “Empire”.
