Fox Greenlights “Independence Day” Sequel

Producer Dean Devlin has used Twitter to announced that the upcoming sequel to 1996’s “Independence Day” has been given the green light by 20th Century Fox.

This means the film, which has spent years in a rocky development phase, is finally going ahead and is expected to begin production shortly in time for its proposed June 24th 2016 release date – just in time for the twentieth anniversary of the original.

Director Roland Emmerich is in negotiations to return to direct the sequel and produce alongside Devlin and Harald Kloser.

Actor Jeff Goldblum revealed last month that he has met with Devlin and Emmerich about appearing in the film, but no official casting information is available at this time.
