Fox Develops “Missile Command” Movie

Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, who recently penned a reboot of “Flash Gordon” and co-wrote “Dracula Year Zero,” are set to adapt the 1980s Atari arcade game “Missile Command” into a feature for 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment reports Variety.

This marks the third title that Atari has set up as a film property following on from Universal Pictures’ “Asteroids” and Sony Pictures Animation’s “Rollercoaster Tycoon.”

The game has sold more than 20 million units over its lifetime and has no real plot, dealing with a Cold War-style scenario in which players have to defend cities from being destroyed by a rain of missiles.

Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark will produce.
