With the network upfronts next week, FOX has made its final decision about what existing shows will live – and has cancelled four series today in the process.
The biggest casualty is “Lethal Weapon,” the TV series based on the popular film series and one more famous for its off-screen drama than anything it committed to the screen. The scrapping isn’t a huge surprise as series co-star Damon Wayans indicated he wouldn’t return for a fourth season.
Another high profile death is “Star,” the music drama sharing the same TV universe as “Empire” and following three talented singers running from their pasts and desperate for a new start. It ran for three seasons ultimately but low ratings, a big budget and no real interest for the property overseas effectively sank it.
Also scoring the chop are two of last seasons newcomers – the Charlie Day-created sitcom “The Cool Kids” and the apocalyptic drama “The Passage” starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Emmanuelle Chriqui. Ratings for both were fairly dire.
