20th Century Fox Animation is in final negotiations to acquire remake rights to the adventure documentary “The Eagle Huntress”.
“Star Wars” actress Daisy Ridley executive produced the original doco which premiered in January as part of the Sundance Kids section of the Sundance Film Festival.
The story follows a teenage girl named Ashol-Pan (Aisholpan Nurgaiv) living in the mountains of northwestern Mongolia who learns all aspects of falconry and competes against seventy eagle hunters on her quest to gain acceptance in a male-dominated field.
Sony Pictures Classics picked up the distribution rights to that work in numerous countries for around $2 million. Sony’s rival Fox however saw the potential in an animation remake of this girl-empowerment tale and began a separate negotiation.
