Eve Hewson (“The Knick”), Gaite Jansen (“Supernova”), Lucy Fry (“Vampire Academy”) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (“Belle”) are all reportedly in the running for the female lead opposite Taron Egerton in “Robin Hood: Origins” for Lionsgate.
Otto Bathurst (“Peaky Blinders”) helms the project this gritty, revisionist take on the legend which is described as a “Batman Begins”-style take on the hero of Sherwood Forest.
In this one Robin returns from fighting in The Crusades and finds that Sherwood Forest is rife with corruption and evil. He forms a band of outlaws and they take matters into their own hands.
No actual offers have been made for the female role yet. Joby Harold, who also penned Guy Ritchie’s gritty “King Arthur” project that has been filming this year, penned the script.
Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson, Basil Iwanyk and Harold and Tory Tunnell are producing with filming to begin in February.
