Four More Join Soderbergh’s “The Knick”

Andre Holland, Juliet Rylance, Eve Hewson and Michael Angarano are set to co-star with Clive Owen in Steven Soderbergh’s 10-episode limited series “The Knick” at Cinemax.

The action is set in downtown New York in 1900 and centers on Knickerbocker Hospital and the groundbreaking surgeons, nurses and staff who push the bounds of medicine in a time of astonishingly high mortality rates and zero antibiotics.

Holland plays a gifted, black Harvard-trained surgeon who fights for respect in this time of rampant racism. Rylance will plays passionate social worker always playing second fiddle to her wealthy father’s philanthropy.

Hewson will play a young, naive Southern nurse. Angarano will play an eager surgeon-in-training who gives up the chance to practice uptown in a wealthy hospital for the romance and excitement of learning from Owen’s character.

Jack Amiel and Michael Begler penned the episodes. Filming begins in New York in late September.
