Formula One McClaren Gets Biopic

“The Lord of the Rings” producer Barrie Osborne is planning a $100 million biopic of Formula One racing car legend Bruce McLaren.

Making the announcement at the A1 Grand Prix race in New Zealand on Saturday, he confirmed Matthew Grainger (“The Ferryman”) is developing the script reports Reuters.

The New Zealand-born McLaren overcame a crippling joint problem in childhood to become, at age 22, the youngest winner of a Formula One race, the United States Grand Prix. He died in a car accident only 10 years later, in 1970, amid a record-breaking winning streak for Team McLaren.

Oscar-winner Dan Hennah (“The Lord of the Rings”) will serve as production designer and shooting is expected to get underway early next year in New Zealand, the UK, Monaco, Germany, France and the US.
