Force Overtakes “Avatar” At U.S. Box-Office

J.J. Abrams’ blockbuster “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has officially passed James Cameron’s “Avatar” to become the highest grossing film of all time at the domestic box-office (not accounting for inflation).

Today, ‘Wars’ pushed past the $760.5 million earned by “Avatar” in the United States – having done so in its twentieth day of release in cinemas. Globally though, ‘Force Awakens,’ is a long way from matching the $2.78 billion earned by “Avatar” with the film’s worldwide tally currently at $1.56 billion.

The news comes as earlier this week Starz acquired the pay TV rights to “Force Awakens” which is also the last film in their output deal with Disney.
