In an effort to keep its secrets under wraps, Disney will not be screening “Stars Wars: The Force Awakens” early for any guilds or critics groups says The Wrap.
Disney and Lucasfilm say that keeping a lid on plot details of its blockbuster are more important than accumulating awards prior to its December 18th rollout.
As a result, it will not be shown in time to make the nominees list for the National Board of Review, the New York Film Critics Circle, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, or the Screen Actors Guild – traditionally the first groups to weigh in on the awards race.
In fact it’s looking like regular critics screenings will either not take place, or be held only one or two nights before release, meaning that the absolute first reactions to the film won’t hit anywhere until the Los Angeles world premiere on the night of Monday December 14th.
Further reactions will likely emerge online when the film opens throughout the latter part of the week in global markets.
