“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” actress Daisy Ridley has scored a new gig in between her commitments to Disney’s massive sci-fi franchise. Ridley is set to provide the voice for the lead character in the upcoming limited theatrical release of Studio Ghibli’s classic animated feature “Only Yesterday”.
Set in the early 1980s, the story follows a single 27-year-old woman who has lived her whole life in Tokyo. Traveling to visit her family in the country, she reflects on her childhood in a series of flashbacks to examine whether she’s been true to the girl she used to be.
The Isao Takahata-directed animated film has never had a North American theatrical release and is now finally scoring one – 25 years after it was a hit in Japan. Ridley will be just one of numerous voice actors hired for the English dub of the film’s soundtrack.
Speaking about her love for the film, Ridley says: “I think the reason probably this is such a loved film and will continue to be so is because it doesn’t feel foreign. It feels exactly right, like, how do you make your dreams come true?”
