The first box-office figures for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” are in with the sci-fi epic raking in $14.1 million at the international box office on Wednesday from twelve international markets – easily setting the stage for one of the biggest film openings in history.
“The Force Awakens” is presently tipped to trump the record $524.9 million global opening that “Jurassic World” pulled in earlier this Summer. Figures so far certainly confirmed it has had the best ever launch for a “Star Wars” film. The film will open in 32 more markets today and then in most major foreign markets by Friday.
Reviews so far have been quite strong. On Metacritic it stands at 81/100, about on par with some of the year’s best reviewed films including “Creed,” “Bridge of Spies,” “Sicario,” “Steve Jobs” and “The Martian”. On Rotten Tomatoes it’s at 95% and 8.2/10.
