The British Academy Britannia Awards on Friday night saw itself hijacked by a living legend – Jane Fonda.
The 81-year-old actress didn’t show up at the ceremony where she received the prestigious Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award For Excellence In Film, instead presenter Taron Egerton cut to a pre-taped video acceptance speech from Fonda which you can see below.
Fonda wasn’t able to attend because she was arrested, for the third Friday in a row, on the Southeast lawn of the US Capitol building in Washington D.C. whilst attending climate change rallies which continue to gain momentum around the world.
The video itself includes Fonda shouting thanks for the award as she’s taken away by the police. The clip drew a standing ovation at the packed audience at the Beverly Hilton International Ballroom.
