“Half Nelson” and “Sugar” filmmakers Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden have scored financing and distribution for their next film, the coming-of-age dramedy “”It’s Kind of a Funny Story”, via Focus Features says The Hollywood Reporter.
Based on Ned Vizzini’s 2006 young-adult novel, the story centers on a 15-year-old boy named Craig who, battling depression, checks himself into a psychiatric hospital but finds himself placed in the adult ward.
He has a series of colorful and dramatic relationships with a group of adults — many of whom he finds are far crazier than he is — and a girl his own age.
Fleck and Boden will direct from a script they wrote, while Kevin Misher and Ben Browning will produce. The $8 million project will begin filming late in the Fall with casting now underway.
