Sony Pictures and Marvel have reportedly whittled down their list of potential candidates for the upcoming Spider-Man film to just five names according to The Wrap.
The studio is expected to make test offers next week for the coveted role, with a decision expected in the next 2-3 weeks and a deal to then be hammered out. None of the five actors have received test offers yet, but all are said to be strong contenders who are definitely in the mix as of right now.
Perhaps the best known on the list is Asa Butterfield, the young title star of both “Hugo” and “Ender’s Game”. Also on the list is “The Fault in out Stars” supporting cast member Nat Wolff, “The Impossible” scene stealer Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet who played McConaughey’s son in “Interstellar”, and Liam James who was the lead star of “The Way Way Back”.
Sony and Marvel had no comment regarding the shortlist. Drew Goddard remains the frontrunner to direct the new film which hits cinemas July 2017.
