London’s most notorious gangsters, the infamous Kray twins, are about to get a biopic treatment from “L.A. Confidential” scribe Brian Helgeland. “Legend” sees Tom Hardy taking on the dual roles of Reggie and Ronnie Kray, the pair who were considered the “foremost perpetrators of organised crime” in London’s East End in the 1950s and 1960s.
The pair were involved in armed robberies, arson, protection rackets, assaults and murders. They were also owners of a West End nightclub and scored their own level of fame living it up with some famous entertainers. The bisexual Ronnie was also a paranoid schizophrenic and the more brutal of the two.
“Kingsman: The Secret Service” star Taron Egerton plays a boyfriend of Ronnie’s in the film. I spoke with Egerton about the film back in February, the actor saying there’s definitely a “heightened quality” to it in terms of tone. He also called it an “aggressively sexual” film which means one shouldn’t expect this to softball the wild side of the twins. Today comes the first trailer for the film which opens September 11th.
