One of the most celebrated films at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and certainly one of its most commercial, the comedy “Late Night” was immediately a hot pick and was snapped up by Amazon who are set to give it a full theatrical run this Summer.
Emma Thompson stars as Katherine Newbury, a pioneer and legendary host on the late-night talk-show circuit. Facing low ratings and a network that wants to replace her, and accused of hating women, Newbury hires a woman named Molly (Mindy Kaling) to join her all-male writer’s room.
Molly, determined to prove she’s not just a diversity hire, is determined to help and aims to revitalise the show and enact bigger change at the same time. Max Casella, Hugh Dancy, John Lithgow, Denis O’Hare, Reid Scott, and Amy Ryan co-star in the film which Nisha Ganatra helms. It opens on June 7th.
