USA Network has premiered the first trailer for their upcoming TV series based on “The Purge” horror franchise and produced by Blumhouse Television and Universal Cable Productions.
The universe of the films is set in a theocratical totalitarian United States of America, a society which revolves around a twelve-hour period once a year when all crime, including murder, is legal.
The story follows several seemingly unrelated characters living in a small city and as the clock winds down, each character is forced to reckon with their past as they discover how far they will go to survive the night.
Franchise creator James DeMonaco is penning and executive producing the series which will be the first entry in the franchise to heavily explore the period between ‘purges’ and the society that allowed such a heinous mandate to be legalised.
Thomas Kelly, Anthony Hemingway, Jason Blum, Sebastien K. Lemercier, Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form all executive produce while Kelly serves as showrunner and Hemingway directs the premiere. “The Purge” series will premiere Tuesday, September 4th.
